About the
OPD
The Police Department is the largest department of the City of
Oberlin. There are 16 full-time employees and
three part-time employees. Last year the police department handled nearly
1008 calls for service
in 2005. In most cases, especially during non-business hours, the Police Department is the primary resource for citizen contact regarding emergency and non-emergency needs.
The
Police Department is a
strong member of the
citywide "team".
Consistent with the
concept of community
policing, the department
endeavors to assist
citizens in eliminating
the underlying causes of
crime, conflicts or
safety hazards by
assisting in the
coordination of a
concerted effort
involving various
branches of city
government such as
Public Works, Fire
Department, Code
Enforcement, the Prosecutor's Office and the Municipal Court. The Police Department also works closely with the
Lorain County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The department provides round-the-clock service and is made up of patrol ,various administrative, detective, records/communications and support personnel.
