Firefighters Dependents Board

Purpose/Duties
Pursuant to ORC 146.02, each political subdivision having a fire department employing volunteer firefighters is a member of the volunteer firefighters' dependents fund and shall establish a volunteer firefighters' dependents fund board. The purpose of the fund is to pay claims to dependents due to a firefighter's death or to a firefighter for total and permanent injuries sustained in line of duty.

The board shall consist of five (5) members: two elected by council, two elected by fire department, and one elected by the board.

The board meets within five days after receipt of a benefit claim to consider the claim, make a determination of the amount due, submit its recommendation to the state fire marshal for payment.
