Housing Renewal Commission
Purpose/Duties
The Housing Renewal Commission is established by Chapter 1173 of the City of Oberlin’s Codified Ordinances. This Commission is composed of five (5) members appointed by City Council for three (3) year terms. Membership appointments and terms are staggered in order to provide continuity on the Commission. Council gives preference to the appointment of members to the Commission who have experience in the building trades.
The Housing Renewal Commission is granted the authority to review City building codes and to make recommendations to City Council concerning any amendment, deletion or addition to the code that the Commission deems necessary. The Commission is also granted the jurisdiction to hear appeals related to the residential or housing code, and to grant variances to the same.
