The Planning and Development Department provides a wide range of important services to the community, interfacing with and everyday acting on behalf of Oberlin residents, businesses, developers, contractors, visitors and persons interested in living and working in Oberlin. Those services include current and long-term planning, Zoning Code administration and enforcement, site plan review, property maintenance code enforcement, and community development and economic development services.

The department’s efforts play a vital role in shaping Oberlin’s built environment and enhancing the overall quality of life for its residents and businesses. Planning provides the policy foundation for the City’s day-to-day decision making. The Comprehensive Plan serves to guide Oberlin’s growth and the quality of development, as well as the infrastructure and community facilities necessary to support growth.
